How to make Italian iced coffee
Share
Imagine this: you take a sip of a rich, flavourful iced coffee, the kind that makes your taste buds dance and your spirits soar. That’s the magic of Italian iced coffee. With just a few steps, you can recreate this delightful experience at home using Gimoka Nespresso compatible pods and beans.
Using Gimoka Nespresso compatible pods
Step 1) Pick out your choice of pod. Unsure which one is right for you? Take our quiz by clicking here.
Step 2) Insert the pod into your machine and grab a heat resistant cup. Use Espresso size (40ml) for a stronger coffee or Lungo (110ml) if you want a more diluted base.
Step 3) Allow the hot coffee to cool slightly for about 2 minutes.
Step 4) Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. For a stronger flavour, use more ice to ensure the coffee stays cold.
Step 5) Once the coffee is slightly cooled, pour it directly over the ice.
Step 6) For a creamier iced coffee, pour in cold milk. You can use any type of milk (dairy, almond, oat, soy) based on your preference. If you prefer your coffee black, you can skip the milk and add a little cold water to slightly dilute the intensity if needed.
Step 7) If you like your iced coffee sweet, stir in a sweetener like sugar, honey, or flavoured syrup (e.g., vanilla, caramel).
TIP: Dissolve your sweetener in the hot coffee before adding ice for better mixing.
Step 8) Stir your iced coffee gently to mix all the flavours. Taste to see if it needs any adjustments.
Using Gimoka coffee beans
Step 1) Select your choice of coffee beans. We'd recommend a Medium to Dark Roast as these beans tend to hold their flavour better when served with ice. You can view our full range of coffee beans by clicking here.
Step 2) Start to grind your beans. Aim for a medium grind, but adjust this based on your brewing method.
Step 3) You can use any method to brew your beans. But here's the most common:
Method 1: Drip Coffee Maker
- Add the ground coffee to your filter.
- Brew about 1.5 to 2 cups (around 350-500ml) of coffee, depending on how many servings you want.
- Once brewed, let the coffee sit to cool slightly for 5-10 minutes, or transfer it to the fridge to cool faster.
Method 2: French Press
- Add about 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per 120ml of water to the French press.
- Pour hot (but not boiling) water over the grounds and stir.
- Let it steep for about 4 minutes, then press the plunger down slowly.
- Allow the coffee to cool slightly.
Method 3: Pour-Over
- Place a filter in your pour-over device and add 15g of ground coffee per 250ml of water.
- Slowly pour hot water in a circular motion over the grounds, allowing the coffee to bloom and then drip through the filter.
- Once brewed, let it cool.
Step 4) Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. The more ice you use, the colder and more refreshing your iced coffee will be.
Step 5) Once the coffee is cooled, pour it directly over the ice in your glass.
Step 6) Add cold milk (dairy, almond, oat, soy) for a creamier texture. Adjust the amount based on your preference.
Step 7) If you like a sweet iced coffee, stir in your preferred sweetener such as sugar, honey, or flavoured syrup.
Step 8) Taste your iced coffee and adjust it as needed.
